Opera North Inc. of Philadelphia names D. C. based critic Patrick D. McCoy to its Board of Directors

After a unanimous vote, Washington. D. C. based performing arts critic Patrick D. McCoy, The African American Voice in Classical Music was named to the Board of Directors of one of the nation's premiere boutique opera companies.

Aug. 1, 2011 - PRLog -- On August 1, 2011 it was unanimously announced and agreed upon to name Patrick D. McCoy as the newest member of the Board of Directors of Opera North, Inc, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the state's only African-American opera company.   A native of Petersburg, Virginia, McCoy currently lives in Washington, D. C. where he is respected as a professional musician, journalist and educator.  Currently, he is a freelance writer for the Afro-American Newspaper, Examiner.com and host his own BlogTalk Radio show as The African American Voice in Classical Music.  "You will be a great asset to Opera North, Inc.'s board and I look forward to working with you." said  Executive Director, the noted composer and flautist Leslie Savoy Burrs.

To date, McCoy has interviewed some of the most celebrated classical and inspirational musicians of our time, including conductor Julian Wachner, mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves, soprano Christine Brewer, bass Samuel Ramey, legendary gospel artist Richard Smallwood, organist Mickey Thomas Terry, conductor Stanley Engebretson, bass-baritone Mark Steven Doss, mezzo-soprano Marietta Simpson, soprano Angela Brown and bass-baritone Eric Owens among many others.  This fall, McCoy will perform a series of vocal recitals to financially support his upcoming tour to various colleges and universities across the nation, sharing his love of classical music from the perspective of a young African-American man.

As a reviewer of concerts, Mr. McCoy has become a regular fixture at the concerts of The Washington Chorus, The Washington Bach Consort, Vocal Arts DC, The Cathedral Choral Society, The National Philharmonic Chorale and Orchestra,, Young Concert Artists and supporting the concert endeavors of rising stars including soprano Brandie Sutton, bass-baritone Soloman Howard, concert pianist Dana Kristina-Joi Morgan, tenor Terrence Bradford Tarver, among others too numerous to name.  Mr. McCoy is humbled by this opportunity and gives all glory to God.
