Whole Foods Market (Jacksonville, Fl) Installs Hearing Loop In 2nd Location

Aug. 9, 2011 - PRLog -- Whole Foods Market, a national all natural and whole foods grocery chain, has installed a Hearing Loop at one of the cash registers of their Jacksonville store.  It is the 2nd such installation for Whole Foods with their Sarasota store installing one in May.

Hearing Loops clearly transmit sound directly into the users hearing aids or cochlear implants, provided they are equipped with a T-coil.  A T-coil is a small receiver found inside most hearing aids and cochlear implants.  The advantage is that a user can turn off all external background noise when activating the T-coil to elimanate any competing noise which might interfere with their ability to hear the intended conversation.

Florida is known to have one of the highest rates of hearing loss in the Country with nearly 3 million people Statewide with the issue.  Studies have shown that 70% of hearing aid and cochlear implant wearers miss 30% or more of what is said in public places, a key reason many significantly limit their community activities, like theater, meetings and shopping. Loops can be used in those types of locations as well as houses of worship, auditioriums, senior living facilities, and any other venue which hearing can sometimes be difficult in.  There is also a restaurant version of the Hearing Loop, which is in use it 2 restaurants in Sarasota, Cariguilo's and Owen's Fish Camp.
