By: WOJS Publications Inc Alex Hyde-White is a British born second generation actor who grew up in the USA during the 60's and 70's, giving him a unique and healthy perspective to matters of culture, politics and the greatest of all American exports-- film and television. As a youngster known as Punch (real middle name, father was a funny guy), he made friends easily in such contrasting places as backstage at the Duke Of York's Theatre in London and Angel Stadium in Palm Springs, CA. His father was the well-known British actor Wilfrid Hyde-White, who moved to Hollywood after making My Fair Lady for Warner Brothers in 1963, in which he played "Col. Pickering." As a teen, Punch joined his father in Washington DC during the run of The Jockey Club Stakes at the Kennedy Center and later attended Georgetown University, at age 16. He returned to California a year later and, finding he prefered show business to a life of politics and government (with his dual citizenship he may have been a likely candidate for the CIA) became a contract player at Universal Studios on such late 70's shows as Battlestar:Galactica and Quincy. The early 80's found Alex on Broadway in Kingdoms and England where he picked up his first starring role in the British World War 1 time-travel movie Biggles: Adventures in Time. After that came Ishtar in Morocco, Phantom of the Opera in Budapest, The First Olympics:Athens 1896 in Greece and some UK television work before Alex returned back to California in 1989 where he joined the last season of Newhart as Scooter Drake. That led to Garry Marshall casting him as 'David Morse', the polo playing industrialist grandson of Ralph Bellamy in Disney's mega-hit Pretty Woman. Other film roles include "Young Henry Jones" in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, "General Ambrose Burnside" in Gods and Generals, Catch Me if You Can and the first version of Marvel Comics The Fantastic Four in which he starred as "Reed Richards", the intrepid scientist-leader. As a father of two boys, and himself the son of a very good actor, Alex Hyde-White is dedicated to securing the legacy of progression from father to son as creators of mirth and reason. Actors quite often live on nothing more than spontanaity, instinct and timing, and a sort of cultural "survivalism" As a filmmaker, his company TMG produced a romantic comedy in 2001 Pursuit of Happiness which was released in some cities before going to DVD. He has just delivered Three Days (of Hamlet) which will make its debut over the next few months in festivals prior to release to DVD and Home Entertainment. "Three Days" is a Hamlet-based documentary about fathers and sons, mothers and uncles, and nature and nurture. Filmed digitally over the span of three days, mainly in a theatre, the film chronicles a troupe of players as they gather to rehearse and perform a stage reading of Hamlet. Reality ensues and the stories that come out from the characters weave their way into the play, in true indie fashion, to create a most original first person hybrid documentary film.
