Aug. 31, 2011 - PRLog -- For fall and winter 2011-12 androgynous trends seems to be a inspiration for many fashion designers. One trend that was extremely popular during the last few seasons and also has a comeback for this fall and winter; is the military look.


The female dandy trend which still in fashion for this season with an interesting interpretation by Moschino Cheap & Chic with dress and big bows, while Dolce&Gabbana brings a subtle note of masculinity to their collection with the black tuxedo jacket for creating the season’s androgynous looks.
Trench coats and military jackets that seem to come straight from the Russian army could be seen in the Alexander McQueen’s collection.


Gender Blender is the new move to unisex fashion trends. Androgynous style is nothing new. The concept of androgynous fashion has driven fashion to masculine and feminine extremes in the past. Avant-garde fashion designers in the 1950s and 60s, were pioneering fashions such as no-shape bathing suit, the miniskirt, psychedelic colour patterns, the topless swimsuit, transparent tops, and thongs. Not to mention the hyper-masculine power suit of the ’80s for women.


Women not only wearing not oversized men’s blazers in the 80s. May David Beckham has initiated the trend of the contemporary metro sexual movement. But also we have seen Alexander Wang who is one of the hottest designers in New York, recently he has showed oversized men’s blazer and other masculine staples such as denim cut-offs and simple T-shirts in his latest collections.


In Paris too, YSL designer Stefano Pilati ditched his ruffles to change on tailoring for women, as did Balenciaga’s Nicholas Ghesquiere. “Austere” was the key word for Ghesquiere, who moved clothing away from the body, adding structure and stiffness and removing all vestiges of flimsy femininity in a slightly post-apocalyptic trend or multi-talented Patrick Wolf, who models in a Burberry advertising campaign.


Successful androgynous male models are: Andrej Pejic, Tomek Szczukiecki, Marcel Castenmiller, Ethan James and Thomas Penfound.There are also a number of androgynous female models: Freja Beja Erichsen, Eliza Cummings, Agyness Deyn and Stella Tennant. Famous transsexual models are:  Lea T, born Leandro Cerezo, now a female model serving as a muse for Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci.
