We recognize and empower lady filmmakers from all ethnic, religious, and sexually oriented communities. However, the festival also strongly encourages men who have written, directed, produced or worked as the director of photography on a film that showcases relevant female issues or is comprised primarily of an all-female cast to apply as well. To qualify for the festival, films must have at least one woman in the role of writer, director, cinematographer, producer, editor, or production designer. “We’re thrilled to announce the move to Beverly Hills! Lady Filmmakers Film Festival in recognizes and celebrates the tremendous contribution of women to film and importance in the collaborative spirit amongst men and women,” said Patricia DiSalvo Viayra, Festival Director & Founder. Lady Filmmakers Films Eats, Suites, and Treats is another distinguishing element of this event. Enjoy promotions and discounts from participating area businesses, shops, and restaurants with the weekends festivities. Art Exhibits and Music events will take place as well. Over the past two festivals Lady Filmmakers screened films from over 15 countries. 2009 and 2010 selected films were made by or showcased up-and-coming as well as celebrity filmmakers and actors including Courtney Cox, Laura Dern, Danny Glover, Glenn Close, James Brolin, John Mahoney, Lilly Taylor, Barrie Osborne, David Lynch, Clancy Brown, Mel Rodriguez and Stephen Gyllenhaal, just to name a few.... Regardless of the films selected, one thing is certain; this festival will highlight a variety of cultures and world views. Submissions will be accepted though September 10th 2011. While the festival will celebrate films and filmmakers for the entertainment value and dramatic work they bring to the medium, a number of the films selected will also bring awareness to relevant social issues and challenges women the world over are currently facing. The festival will also honor a strong and influential actress or filmmaker for her achievements in the industry. The announcement of the honoree selected by the festival committee will be made closer to the festival dates.
