Sept. 12, 2011 - PRLog -- In the September issue of Indoor Environment Connections, an article about heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) is attracting a lot of attention and creating discussions about the impact of HVAC systems on a building’s indoor air quality (IAQ).  “The Good, Bad, and (Sometimes) Ugly Field Cases” details the experiences of renowned building sciences expert Ed Chambers, CIEC, CBST.  Mr. Chambers is the owner of EC2, which is based in the Chicago area and provides IAQ services to residential and commercial clients across the Midwest.

According to the article, “For well over twenty years, the indoor environmental industry has known of the impact of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning on buildings and their occupants.  Prior to that, it was mostly understood by a select few; researchers, educators, and some governmental entities.  Professionals in the field were mostly comprised of certified industrial hygienists (CIH).  As the name implies, most of their work involved industrial applications.  Many of us know of the old saying ‘solution by dilution’ when dealing with indoor contaminants.  Today certifying bodies such as the ACAC recognize the importance of HVAC by allowing it to be its own discipline worthy of education, training, and experience for the indoor environmental professional.”

The article goes on to highlight four case studies that EC2 dealt with over the past several years.  They include situations dealing with healthcare facilities, commercial office buildings, residential properties and energy usage.

Since opening for business, EC2 has performed over 5,000 building investigations involving IAQ and various environmental issues.  “HVAC systems and how they are operated and maintained play a critical role in the IAQ of our homes, places of business and institutions,” reported Mr. Chambers.  To view the article in its entirety please visit:
