Sept. 12, 2011 - PRLog -- In celebration of “Women’s History Month” this past March, LiL SoSo Productions presented the first Red Tent Symposium in Washington, DC. This event was attended by over 100 women. This unique women-only event was based on the very popular fictional novel, The Red Tent by Anita Diamant. After the three day celebration, which was held March 25-27, there was much healing, survival stories and eye opening knowledge that was shared with every woman in attendance. It is because of popular demand; The Red Tent Symposium is back for the Fall Edition. This edition’s a three day program will be held October 7-9, 2011.

The Symposium will take place at the John A. Wilson Building from 9 am-5:00 pm. The symposium will feature workshops on the following topics: “Centering by Abstraction: Intuitive Art as a Method of Balance”, “What's the Martyr With You?: Getting Past Control Dramas & Getting on with Life”, “Your Mind is the Matter: Recognizing the Patterns and Making the Changes”, “Everybody Has an Idea: Exploring Entrepreneurship”, “If You Don't, Who Will?: Advocating for Your Children”, “Let's Talk About It: Reproductive Life Planning”, “Keeping Things in Working Order: Herbal Alternatives for Women's Health”. The panel discussions will hold the topics of the following: "Trending Issues On Women's Health" and "The Ties That Divide: Race, Class & Sexuality".

Women from all walks of life are invited to participate, especially college and young women between the ages of 13-17 (with a guardian). In the 21st century it is vital that women continue to embrace and nurture each other in the real and created bonds of sisterhood.

The creator of the symposium and Associate Professor of English at Prince George’s Community College, Risikat Okedeyi states, “Once the tent was built and I was able to see its effect, it was clear that as the seasons changed, we would need to gather once more. This time around we delve more into solutions mining, while still maintaining the topics we think are current and relevant to the lives of modern women.”

The Red Tent Symposium opening reception will be held at Busboys & Poets located at 5th & K, Washington, DC from 6-8 pm. The theme will be “Red Spotlight on Sophia Nelson” which will be an in-depth live on-stage interview with the journalist, TV news personality, and author of the award-winning book Black Women Redefined. An optional brunch will be held on Sunday, October 9th from 12pm-3pm at Tabaq Bistro as way to re-connect after an intense day of information sharing and fellowship.
