Xocai Healthy Chocolate for Children with Cancer

The Xocai (“show-sigh”) Atlanta Healthy Chocolate Team is rallying to help find a CURE for childhood cancer by hosting a Chocolate Tasting fundraiser on October 12, 2011.  Many on the Atlanta Xocai Team have been touched by cancer, and some by childhood cancer.  Health conscious Libby Patrick, a Xocai distributor, is a childhood cancer survivor, and Caroline King's niece, Florence White, is a two-time childhood cancer survivor.  These days, everyone has been touched by cancer; it is especially devastating when a child is diagnosed with the disease.

Kim & Joseph Kawach, owners of Basil’s restaurant, wanted to host an event at their restaurant during October, which is Cancer Awareness Month.  When they learned that only 2% of all federal cancer research dollars go toward pediatric cancer research, they knew this was a cause they wanted to help.  Mrs. Kawach said, “We have three children and cannot imagine the heartbreak parents feel with a cancer diagnosis for your child.  We are excited to do what we can to make a difference.”

Live & Silent Auction

Basil’s is donating hors d’oeuvres and wine for the evening, as well as providing live music by guitarist Paul Newkirk.  Xocai distributors will donate chocolate for the “Chocolate Tasting.”  All proceeds go directly to researching childhood cancers.

CURE is a non-profit organization dedicated to conquering childhood cancer through research, education, and support of patients and their families. CURE Childhood Cancer was founded in 1975 by parents who knew firsthand the heartbreak and fear of having a child with cancer. They set out to improve the odds for these kids and help their families face the challenge. Due to research, much progress has been made since that time. The survival rate for children with cancer has increased dramatically to its current rate of nearly eight out of ten. Best of all, researchers feel they will discover a cure in our lifetime. Until then, there is much to be done, and that is where CURE comes in. They believe childhood cancer can be cured. CURE's mission includes funding important research and providing support programs to help children and their families deal with this dreadful disease.  Cancer kills more children than any other disease.  Until there is a solution for every child diagnosed with cancer, CURE will be there for them.
