By: Heather A. Wright HUMBLE, TEXAS, OCTOBER 11, 2011 - Native American Bike Builder, Daniel Sanchez of Cut Throat Customs has been invited to include a custom built Native American themed motorcycle in the Eiteljorg Museum’s Steel Ponies Exhibition. The Steel Ponies Exhibit will explore the ways that motorcycles and the people who build them, ride them, and show them embody the art, history, culture and sub-culture in the sociological phenomenon. Daniel Sanchez’s custom crafted motorcycle will integrate modern technology, Native American culture with significant historical influences with the assistance of his apprentice, Jose Mancha. It will be unveiled at the exhibit opening, and following the exhibit term, Cut Throat Customs will begin touring with this motorcycle at rallies and shows. The five month exhibition, beginning in March of 2012 in Indianapolis, Indiana, will highlight production motorcycles in America and the widespread use of these vehicles in the American West. Displays will examine the popularity of rallies and address the application of motorcycles as an art form, with a focus on custom and themed builds. Many historical bikes will be on loan from the Smithsonian, Harley Davidson Museum and the National Motorcycle Museum. Private Collectors will also be displaying their collection alongside themed bikes from a few select builders and well-known television and movie prop bikes. In all, there will be over 20 motorcycles in the exhibit. Key players will include the many associations and clubs whose identities are entwined with the machines, leading to comparisons to cowboys, outlaws, ranchers, and gunslingers of the real and mythic West. The motorcycles will be supported by a select variety of other materials that could include period graphics, advertisements, two-dimensional art featuring motorcycles, maps, tattoo “flash” art, motorcycle-riding apparel, and motorcycle accessories. Artists in residence, including motorcycle builders/designers, engravers, airbrush and tattoo artists, will be available for questions and presentations at various times throughout the exhibition. For more than 20 years, Daniel Sanchez, Owner of Cut Throat Customs, has been behind some of the most innovative metalwork designs in the Houston, TX area.
