Dr. Samuel S. Wexler to receive Distinguished Dental Alumnus Award from University of IL at Chi

Dec. 5, 2011 - PRLog -- Dr. Samuel S. Wexler, who earned his DDS degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) College of Dentistry in 1964, will receive the Distinguished Dental Alumnus Award from the College at its 2012 Reunion.

The Distinguished Dental Alumnus Award is the College’s highest honor.
The 2012 UIC College of Dentistry Reunion will be held in a new venue this year. UIC College of Dentistry and Loyola University Chicago School of Dentistry alumni will gather on Friday, April 27, 2012, at the Hyatt Lodge, 2815 Jorie Blvd., Oak Brook, IL 60523. All UIC and Loyola dental school alumni are invited. Tickets are $95 before March 4, $115 after. Dr. Wexler is one of the foremost dental historians in the world.

As co-chair of the UIC Dental Alumni Board’s Committee on the Kottemann Gallery of Dentistry for ten years, Dr. Wexler did a superb job as the driving force behind assembling a unique collection of historical dental artifacts for the College.

Dr. Wexler originated the idea for the gallery, and over the next decade he acquired and donated historical items and consulted with and assisted the gallery’s curators in their work.

He created the dental history exhibit at Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry and at the Hadassah School of Dental Medicine in Israel. He also was involved in the development of the Samuel Harris National Dental Museum in Baltimore, MD.

Dr. Wexler has lectured on dental history around the world, including a hugely popular lecture at the Chicago Dental Society Midwinter Meeting in 2010.
