Dec. 6, 2011 - PRLog -- Exhibitors in countries throughout the Asia Pacific region continue to embrace Christie® 4K and 3D technology, employing the company’s award-winning Solaria™ Series of DLP Digital Cinema® projectors in hundreds of screens. Designed to meet DCI specifications, the Christie Solaria™ Series includes a fully integrated media block (IMB) solution that can manage Higher Frame Rates (HFR) and 4K content without compromising image quality.

“Christie, as the pioneer of digital cinema projection technology, and the first to present digital solutions based on 4K, is committed to work with exhibitors in Asia to grow their digital 4K footprint in line with global trends in the film industry,” announced Lin Yu, vice president, Christie Asia Pacific.

“The demand for 4K will continue to increase, especially in Asia where the cinema industry is experiencing a dynamism that has not been seen for a long time. Christie has deployed its Christie CP4220 and CP4230 projectors in various markets in Asia, with the highest number in China and Australia.”

Rapid 4K Expansion in China

Christie has the most 4K installations in China including more than 350 with the Wanda Group, Asia’s largest cinema chain.

“With Christie’s 4K projectors filling our cinema screens, we are able to provide a complete 3D experience unequaled in quality, brightness, image accuracy and alignment and ultimately, a total cinema immersion for our clients,” remarked Ye Ning, general manager of Wanda Cinema Group.

United Circuit, the cinema operator under Shanghai Film Group, China’s largest cinema circuit, recently purchased 200 Christie digital cinema projectors, including the Christie CP4230.

Xu Xiaoping, general manager of United Circuit, said the 4K digital cinema projectors are part of the company’s next step in providing industry-leading solutions for bigger screens and selected 3D releases. To date, United Circuit has installed more than 600 Christie digital cinema projectors across China.

India and Indonesia Embrace 4K

The Christie CP4230 made the 3D screening of http://www.transformersmovie.com/ Transformers: Dark of the Moon at Bangalore India’s Urvashi Cinema, the country’s first 3D cinema, possible.

“4K is a premium experience even going by worldwide standards. Urvashi prides itself on its commitment to give our patrons the best viewing quality, said Amit R Gowda, CEO of Urvashi Cinema. “We pursue excellence and that is the reason why we took such a bold move with the installation of the Christie CP4230 digital cinema projectors.”

Ranjit Thakur, CEO of Scrabble Entertainment, Christie’s deployment partner in India, agreed, stating, “I have seen this industry progress and witnessed the ups and downs. The way in which India is progressing on the digital cinema platform is astonishing. Urvashi’s move to 4K digital cinema projection has set the bar for cinemas everywhere. This is the onset of a new revolution and I’m sure in the near future, we will see a lot of conversions from the cinema operators here in India.”

In Indonesia, Christie is installing close to 200 digital cinema projectors, including several 4K models. Other Asia markets using Christie 4K DLP Cinema® projection technology include Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan.

Christie 4K Provides New Cinematic Experience Down Under

Hoyts Group, Australia’s second largest chain with 55 cinemas and over 448 screens, employs a selection of Christie 4K projectors in both Australia and New Zealand.

“We have been keeping pace with the strong push across the entire film industry towards digital cinema and one of the main driving forces is 3D content,” said Adam Wrightson, executive director and chief technology officer, Hoyts Cinemas Technology Group. “Christie’s 4K projectors provide our patrons with a whole new cinematic experience as never before, combining the best resolution, color contrast and image quality to give off crisp, life-like images in vivid colors.”

“Christie 4K technology provides cinemas with the most reliable foundation for converting its operations to digital cinema projection. We worked with our exhibitors on integration, installation, service, and technical support for their 4K conversions, providing them with a complete solution for making the move to digital cinema,” concluded Lin.

“In this regard, Christie will continue to push the boundaries of 4K cinematic experience onto screens across Asia. We are also looking forward to having people visit Christie’s CineAsia booth to see demonstrations of our 4K technology.”
