Dec. 20, 2011 - PRLog -- New York, NY – December 20, 2011 – Extricom, a developer of enterprise wireless LAN that provides seamless mobility and high throughput with their patented Channel Blanket™ architecture to critical applications in warehouses, hospitals, schools and a rapidly growing number of large hospitality, entertainment and public venues continues to thrive in Mexico with a ground-breaking installation for the PYME event at the Centro Banamex Exhibition Centre in Mexico City.
One of the largest exhibitions in Latin America and organized by the Mexican government, ‘La Semana Pyme’ (the week for small and medium businesses) is an event where the Federal Government through the Secretaria de Economia (Ministry of Economy) provides a platform to showcase up and coming SMEs.
The event exceeded all expectations and attracted a total of 27,000 visitors over a 5 day period and was opened by the President of Mexico, Felipe Calderon.
Mario Cadena, IT Director at the Centro Banamex Exhibition Centre, which is part of the entertainments company Grupo CIE said, ‘we wanted to provide wireless internet access for the entire exhibition area that comprised 4 halls, each with a lobby – it was a total area of approximately 33,000 square metres. We knew that our existing wireless simply wouldn’t cope with the numbers of visitors we were expecting. We turned to Arturo Salgado Berrum’s team and their expertise with Extricom to manage the project. They did this flawlessly and the exhibitions’ visitor comments during the event were excellent’.
Successful Extricom Partner Consultores Asociados en Seguridad Informática proposed a complete solution for connectivity and perimeter security, that included the Extricom WLAN deployment and working with Extricom’s newest Technology Partner, Inverse, to integrate leading network access, security and user authentication solutions from PacketFence. Web filtering, IPS and firewall policies were also included as part of the project.
Arturo Salgado Berrum, Director General of Consultores commented, ‘certainly we are extremely pleased with how well we conducted this project and how well the end results have been received. Our relationship with Extricom and their supporting partners continues to go from strength to strength and as a result of our involvement at PYME, we are delighted that we have been invited to bring our solutions to other large public venues across Mexico’.
A total of 4 VLANs were configured to separate traffic for 3 different user profiles (guest, VIP and exhibitors) with the 4th VLAN being used for initial authentication. This authentication method ensured that only valid users could connect and register their devices and enjoy different privileges based on who they were, all from a single SSID. Extricom’s unique technology topology eliminates the concept of wireless cell-planning, and replaces it with its unique and patented Channel Blanket™ architecture. In the Channel Blanket™, each Wi-Fi radio channel is used on every access point to create continuous ‘blankets’ of coverage. The sophisticated Extricom WLAN Switch tightly controls a set of multi-radio 802.11 a/b/g/n UltraThin™ Access Points, providing multiple blankets that are both secure and separate, from the same infrastructure. The system is unique in combining multi-channel capacity with blanket mobility and robustness. This makes an Extricom WLAN the most operationally flexible system in the market. Perfectly paired with the powerful tools that PacketFence provides, Ludovic Marcotte, CEO at Inverse added ‘securing WiFi access with PacketFence on Extricom equipment at Centro Banamex was a snap. Extricom’s protocol compliance and performance allowed PacketFence to efficiently provide all required BYOD services during this busy event’.
Days 4 and 5 of the exhibition saw the largest number of concurrent users at around 700, with concurrent users with other 11,000 connections to the wireless and over 6,500 clients completing the captive portal registration process and enjoying access to the Internet.
Antonio Gomez, Extricom’s Sales Director for Mexico, commented ‘Our success stories across Mexico continue to accumulate and the region looks set to become an even more major market focus for us in 2012. We are seeing more and more deployments of multiple technologies alongside Extricom’s leading wireless solution to satisfy the demands of today’s business consumer. Extricom is the ideal wireless platform to complement and accommodate these technologies like no other wireless system can and I’m looking forward to further ground-breaking projects in the future’.
