Follow on Google News | Rockford Greene International’s Phil La Duke Interviewed by Safety + Health MagazineThe noted speaker, blogger, writer, and thought-leader opinions solicited for a story on near miss reporting sought by the National Safety Council’s official magazine.
Everybody gets to go home in one piece: How reporting close calls can prevent future incident can be found in the Safety+Health Plus section of the Safety+Health website. http://www.nsc.org/ “near miss reporting is an area of interest for me” says La Duke, “I’ve written and spoken on the topic extensively.” La Duke spoke at the National Safety Council’s 2011 Conference in Philadelphia where he presented the technical session, Understanding Why People Don’t Report Near Misses. “About the same time that the Call for Presenters went out, I took on a new assignment at a large healthcare system and had, embarrassingly enough, four near misses in the first two weeks” recalls La Duke “I realized that what many safety professionals believed about why people didn’t report near misses (fear) was wrong. In fact, I was so profoundly affected by the experience that I decided, not only to submit an abstract for the conference and expo, but that I would blog and write about it as well.” La Duke’s piece on his experience with near miss reporting, appeared in Facility Safety Management magazine as Four Choices, Eight Reasons. “Chris (Facility Safety Management magazine, Executive Editor, Chris Sandford) did an especially nice job editing the piece; it’s one of the best things I’ve ever written thanks to him.” La Duke’s presentation at the 2011 NSC conference was well attended and particularly well received. “I got a lot of very positive feedback on the presentation, we had strong attendance and most of the comments (on the session evaluations) La Duke’s work appears monthly in Fabricating & Metalworking magazine where he is a contributing editor, and his work has also appeared in Facility Safety Management and ISHN magazines.
