Ainol Novo 7 Elf Tablet PC vs Novo7 Paladin Android 4.0 - Fight!

Reviews of both Android 4.0 Tablets, the Ainol Novo 7 Elf and the Paladin have been great. There price difference is around $20. Novo7 Elf has upgraded capacitive screen as well as 1.5GHz All Winner A10 CPU. It also has web camera. Paladin does not.

Jan. 7, 2012 - PRLog -- The recent release announcement of Ainol Novo 7 Elf Android 4.0 tablet PC has got the android forum community buzzing. "Why all the buzz?" one may ask.

Before I go further into this Ainol review diatribe, and answer the later question, let me warn you that this may get confusing.

There are two reasons for all of this Elf buzz.

The first is that Ainol ended long awaited speculation that the Basic edition production would be terminated, by confirmed that no more basic tablets would be manufactured. And, they apparently discontinued the Novo 7 Advanced edition with Android 3.2 OS to focus soley on Android 4.0 Operating System aka Ice Cream Sandwich.

The apparent is because there are two advanced editions, neither which are available for Ainol anymore. The first only has a 1GHz XBurst CPU and the 2nd "Adopts A10 1.5GHz (current firmware running on 1.0GHz)."  This means that even if a few units of the advanced are left, Ainol would have to release a firmware upgrade to get the tablets running at 1.5GHz.

There are no plans in the near future to develop and release this firmware update. Ainol is focusing on Android 4.0 tablets. Some stores still list the 2.3 and 4.0 advanced, but it is not available anymore and if so, there is a big chance the unit is a refurbished tablet.

To answer the first question of "Why all the buzz?"  Elf will be the first 1.5GHz tablet to clock that speed, out of the box.

The second reason is the upgraded multi touch screen. The Paladin only has a 800×480 resolution screen. The Novo 7 Elf has a 1024*600 pixels capacitive screen.

And the third reason is that the Novo Elf is so popular compared to the Paladin is because the Elf has a built in front facing web camera; Paladin does not have a camera.

This camera feature is something the basic and advanced editions had, but that Ainol was not able to support in tiem for the Android 4.0 Paladin release.  In my opinion the Paladin which is now being called the "Novo 7 Advanced II" is an okay tablet. I would give it a rating of 7 out of 10 stars. The Elf gets a Solid 10/10 stars for fast A10 Cpu, higher resolution screen, and of course the web cam. Not to mention, it is only around $20 more than Paladin.

Update note: the Novo 7 Elf will not have IPS screen is earlier reported, but it will still have the higher resolution as mentioned above.
