Follow on Google News | Ainol Novo 7 Aurora IPS hammers Elf Android 4.0 Tablet PCOnly a week after Ainol released its Novo 7 Elf, the IPS screen Aurora upgraded version was released. Many Elf buyers wanted to upgrade to Aurora but their Paladin and Elf orders had already shipped. The Aurora has a better screen and comes in 16gb.
By: Ainol Novo 7 Elf ICS Aurora reviewer The first difference is the tablet's paint finish. The Novo 7 Elf has a Paladin like frosted black layer of paint. The Aurora has a more aesthetic glossy greyish black coat. Appearance wise, I definitely prefer the Aurora. Memory-wise, my Elf only has 8gb's of memory. I really regret not waiting for the Aurora. For just $20 or so more dollars I get both double my memory and a better iPad 2 like IPS Screen. In my first paragraph, I kind of already reviewed my opinon on the screens. iPad is smart. They used the Hitachi IPS screen for a reason. "What is an iPS screen you may ask?" As Wikipedia explains, and IPS LCD is a; "Thin film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) is a variant of liquid crystal display (LCD) which uses thin-film transistor (TFT) technology to improve image quality (e.g., addressability, contrast). TFT LCD is one type of Active matrix LCD, though all LCD-screens are based on TFT active matrix addressing. TFT LCDs are used in television sets, computer monitors, mobile phones, handheld video game systems, personal digital assistants, navigation systems, projectors, etc." Basically, the technology was developed by Hitachi in 1996 with the goal of improving the viewing angle and screen coloration. Only recently have the costs of the IPS technology come down enough to make it cost effective to use these superior panels in tablet PC's and other electroncis. I must say that by comparing the two screens of my Novo tablets, the viewing angle and colors of the Aurora are a lot better. Hence, the name "Aurora" with definition: "Aurora (astronomy), a glow in the sky seen at polar latitudes," or "Aurora (mythology), the goddess of the dawn in Roman mythology." I really do not know what these Chinese manufacturer's are thinking when they come of with these tablet names or even a brand "Ai-nol." No puns intended. Lastly, I must report that neither model has android market pre-installed. These will have to be rooted or there will have to be an Android software fix release. On the more positive side, mine came with an HDMI cable and under apps, there is something that says "Bluetooth Share." I have yet to explore whether bluetooth will actually work or not. My conclusion, if you want a tablet that most people bought because it was $20 cheaper and it was released first, and has a funky but kind of corny name, then go for the Elf. If you want a real tablet that could compete with iPad 2 memory wise, capacitive IPS screen wise and a tad bit faster CPU, then go for the beautifully name Novo 7 Aurora.
