By: Nate D. Sanders January 25, 2012 – LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Nate D. Sanders will auction three Albert Einstein letters to August Hamelberg on January 31, who belonged to an organization that advocated against the Nazi regime. Hamelberg belonged to the organization “Friends of the Truth, a Cincinnati-based German-American organization that published four anti-Nazi pamphlets in 1933/1934, which were “The Nazi Obsession: Jews and Germans", "Germany to the Front: An Appeal to German Loyalty”, "Menace of Nazism: Sober Thinking for German-Americans” Einstein wrote first to Hamelberg in 1934 stating that the Friends of Truth was correct not to accept Jews in their organization because it would weaken their position. Einstein added, “For similar reasons, I have so far avoided speaking out openly about this issue.” In June 1935, Einstein forwarded an article to Hamelberg and requested that it be translated into English. A month later, Einstein praised Hambelberg for his work on the pamphlets telling him, “I really enjoyed your letter. Your blessed work is all the more honorable as it isn't only an investment of your time but it asks a great measure of courage and self-reliance. If there were only as many like minded Germans over there, the German community wouldn't have sunk so low!" In October, Nate D. Sanders sold an Einstein letter commending an activist for his efforts helping European Jews for nearly $14,000. The auction ends Tuesday, January 31, 2011 at 5 pm Pacific Standard Time. Bids can be placed online atwww.NateDSanders.com or by phone at 310-440-2982. Additional information on the Einstein letters can be found at http://natedsanders.com/ About Nate D.
