Latest DiscountVouchers.co.uk Poll Reveals Quarter of People Unaware of How Much Partner Earns

Feb. 8, 2012 - PRLog -- A new poll conducted online by leading money-saving website DiscountVouchers.co.uk has revealed that a huge percentage - 25% - of British people have no knowledge of how much money their partner earns each year.

The survey found that a massive 27.25% of people have no clue how much money their partner makes, while double the number women than men admitted to having a personal, private bank account 8% versus 4%.

In other survey results DiscountVouchers.co.uk discovered that 43% of women admitted to having lied about what they paid for new clothing, while 17% of men said that they had done this. The chief reason mentioned as a reason for this privacy and lying was one of a guilty conscience.

The poll was carried out by the voucher codes website to get a feel for British people's spending habits, and the results also showed that 40% of people have read their partner’s bank or credit card statements. However one in ten people just do not bother even looking at their credit card and bank statements at all.

Psychologist Dr Penny Goldsbrough commented: “We do very much see this kind of behaviour in people who lack self esteem or who are frightened of the unknown. Furthermore a lack of trust in a partner can prompt this habit of opening and reading loved ones' bank statements or opening up personal accounts in which to stash money away.”

Dr Goldsbrough continues: “Lots of women follow their mother's habits, so if they had a mother who was secretive about their money and who bought things on the sly, the chances are increased that they will too. There is inherent guilt in spending money and conspicuous consumption but people do all the same like to spend money.”
