Geoforms Launches Website for Worldwide Geospatial Data for Academics and Research

Feb. 15, 2012 - PRLog -- Geoforms.Org provides educators, students and researchers an easy interactive means to search and navigate geographic, geopolitical and geo-economic information about countries, administrative divisions and cities of the world. Users may navigate through either a traditional text-based search or through an interactive google map interface.

According to Co-Founder Andrew Ferlitsch, "the Google Interactive Map interface adds a new dimension above the traditional text-based searching typically found in other online GIS systems". Information on countries, states and cities is obtained from the open data project, opengeocode.org, which compiles public domain GIS information from national and international databases.

"Our database has over a half million location records, including place names in a variety of languages, as well as geographic, political and census data", according to Co-Founder, Will Mayall.

Users can navigate the site in English, Spanish or French. According to Co-Founder, Karl Wischnofske, "users can search by postal codes within the United States and Canada and obtain live weather information on nearly any location in the world".
