TVECA's Response to the Florida Electronic Cigarette MalfunctionThe Tobacco Vapor Electronic Cigarette Association Responds to the Situation of the Battery Anomaly in Florida
By: TVECA Feb. 16, 2012 - PRLog -- On February 15, 2012 the Tobacco Vapor Electronic Cigarette Association (TVECA) learned of an incident in Florida of a claim that an electronic cigarette caused serious burns to an e-cig user. As unfortunate as this single incident is, we will wait until the Florida authorities further investigate to determine the cause of this products possible failure and the specific brand. It is our general understanding though that the gentleman was using a “MOD” or modified version of a vaporizing device and not what the industry recognizes as an electronic cigarette. MOD’s generally use large amounts of energy to generate large amounts of vapor for the users satisfaction.
The electronic cigarette has been in the U.S. market since late 2007. Since that time there have been multi-millions of units sold with billions and billions of uses without the report of a single similar incident. The electronic cigarette is simply composed of a low wattage lithium battery that is attached to a cartridge that generally contains propylene glycol, glycerol, nicotine water and differing flavors. The mission of the TVECA is to provide the media, legislative bodies and those interested the science behind the e-cig. The TVECA was also founded to institute and promote industry-wide standards and a code of conduct, work to maintain sound professional practices and work with governmental agencies to ensure member compliance to all state, local federal tobacco law. For further information on this issue or any questions about the electronic cigarette industry, please contact Thomas Kiklas at 949-648-2525 or email to tom@tveca.com # # # The TVECA has been established to provide the media, legislative bodies and those that are currently using the electronic cigarette (e-cig) a single industry resource to simply provide the scientific facts behind a new technology that has garnered tremendous disinformation. Now with over 2.5 Million Americans using the e-cig and over 21 scientific studies of e-cig constituencies it is our mission to disseminate the facts and truths about a new technology smokers are actually using daily and health advocacy groups are aligned against.
