Everyone is invited to come down to the Oregon State Capitol to commemorate the life and achievements of Oregon's Soldier/Statesman on the 201st anniversary of his birth. There will be a special "Presenting of the Colors" by the Sons of Union Veterans Reserve, and, the playing of "Taps" and an visit paid to the Oregon Veterans Medal of Honor memorial on the Capitol grounds, where the names are inscribed of four Civil War Medal of Honor recipients buried in Oregon. The memorial honors all of Oregon's veterans, focuses on the valor shown by the Oregon Medal of Honor recipients and has the names of the four Oregonians with connections to the Civil War, and 2012 marks the 150th Anniversary of the creation of the Army Medal of Honor back on July 12, 1862.
