IMACS Joins Sponsors of Ladies Learning Code Technology Camp for Girls

Feb. 23, 2012 - PRLog -- The Institute for Mathematics and Computer Science (IMACS) has become the latest sponsor of Girls Learning Code, an all-girls technology camp organized by Toronto-based Ladies Learning Code (LLC). From March 12 to March 16, 2012, forty 11-14 year old camp participants will focus on the theme of “Changing the World” with technology as a means, not an end. IMACS, the Plantation, Florida-based teaching and educational research institute, will award a full-tuition scholarship for its 40-week online introductory programming course, University Computer Science I, to the Girls Learning Code participant who achieves the highest score on its IMACS Aptitude Test.

LLC founder Heather Payne said, "We're thrilled to have IMACS on board as a sponsor for Girls Learning Code, and we're excited that one of the talented Girls Learning Code campers is going to come away from camp not just with the passion for technology she gained that week, but also the opportunity to dive deeper - much deeper - into programming through the 40-week University Computer Science 1 course. We hope it will make a difference in one of these girls' lives."

IMACS offers an advanced computer science curriculum designed for talented middle and high school students. University Computer Science I, a two-semester introduction to computer science at the university level, is the first of a sequence of fully interactive, self-contained, online programming courses that make up the IMACS Modern Computer Science Track. Students who successfully complete the track develop a deep understanding of fundamental computer science concepts that is easily transferable to any programming language.
