By: Midwest Real Estate Data MRED is committed to being on the leading edge of green data in the MLS industry. It was an early adopter of best practices in green MLS design and is keeping up with green building and remodeling trends in Illinois. To incorporate perspectives from all types of users, the latest MRED system changes were recommended by a team of MRED customers from across its coverage area, including agents with green certifications. MRED customers now have new green information field choices and may upload as many as fourteen different green disclosure documents. Many of these choices apply to existing homes that have completed energy efficiency remodeling. The design changes were designed to support the elimination of green-washing - the term used when marketing activities are perceived to make the property sound more environmentally friendly than it might really be. These enhancements also make it easier for appraisers to gain better access to green and utility-savings information when it comes time to secure financing for the property. By actually confirming that the uploaded forms are in fact “green” disclosures, MRED’s Compliance Department will continue to insure that the data entered into the green fields is verified and of the highest quality. "Including energy efficiency data on homes for sale in Chicagoland is an innovative and important step by MRED,” said Anne Evens, Executive Director of CNT Energy, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the promotion of energy efficiency and saving consumers money. “Multiple listing services do more than just provide listing data - they empower homeownership decisions. Utility bills are often a substantial portion of the monthly cost of owning a home. Today’ “Value is so important in the current market, and energy efficiency is a great way to stand out with value,” said Laura Stukel, EcoBroker and NAR Green agent at LW Reedy Real Estate in Elmhurst. “MRED is keeping up with important trends to make it easier for buyers to find homes with energy efficiency remodeling. Being able to search for the Illinois Home Performance with ENERGY STAR certificate rewards sellers for smart improvements and ensures buyers they are getting a more efficient home.” “MRED continues to set the bar for how green MLS fields work,” explains Sarah Coulter, LEED AP, EcoBroker and NAR Green agent at @Properties in Chicago. “Now our green fields have an extra step of data verification to make sure buyers, sellers and appraisers always have the highest quality of green data at their fingertips. Plus the range of data verification available – from a detailed Green Disclosure to a scan of a LEED certificate to a MyHomeEQ utility bill summary – covers both existing and new homes, and the various levels of green and efficiency in our housing inventory.” “As early as 2009 MRED was a pioneer in bringing national attention to green fields in the MLS,” said Russ Bergeron, CEO of MRED. “Our latest upgrade represents the next step, with enhancements for existing homes and increased data verification. This also reflects MRED’s continuing focus on delivering ‘public service apps’ such as Down Payment Resource and the Short Sale Assistance Desk that benefit the consumer as well as the real estate professional.” # # # Midwest Real Estate Data (MRED) is the real estate data aggregator and distributor providing the Chicagoland multiple listing service (MLS) to nearly 8,000 real estate offices and 40,000 real estate professionals, including brokers, agents and appraisers End
