March 13, 2012 - PRLog -- Ash Krafton's Debut Novel Adds Egyptian Twist to Demivampire Lore

Author Ash Krafton admits that she can't get enough of vampires…or mummies. That doesn't leave a lot of opportunity for multi-tasking her reading list, so she did the sensible thing--and wrote her own book.

BLEEDING HEARTS: BOOK ONE OF THE DEMIMONDE is a contemporary paranormal tale about a woman who finds herself extricably submerged in a world of demivampires, Weres, and mystical oracles. Set in fictional Balaton, a city in southeast Pennsylvania, Bleeding Hearts describes a shy advice columnist who is driven to save her demivampire lover from the fate that threatens each of his entire race: evolution and the loss of his soul.

Krafton explores the origin of her Demivampires by focusing on the Egyptian god Horus, the falcon-headed god of the sky. "Horus provided a fantastic connection between vampires and werewolves," she explains. "In ancient mythology, Horus is described as always watching us: one eye is the sun, and the other is the moon. Writing Bleeding Hearts allowed me an opportunity to explore that connection between vampires and werewolves, perhaps giving them another excuse to be partners in the urban fantasy world."

Her Egyptian take on the vampire-werewolf connection is further explored in the upcoming books in the series, titled BLOOD RUSH and WOLF'S BANE. "The books are definitely contemporary," Krafton says. "But we all have roots in the past, a place where nobility of heart and tradition of faith were more revered. I love to incorporate those values into my writing. It's a hallmark of fantasy writing: we create the world that ought to have been."

In a review by Publishers Weekly, Bleeding Hearts is described as a "paranormal romance that will appeal most to readers who have outgrown Twilight but think the Anita Blake books are too salacious."

BLEEDING HEARTS: BOOK ONE OF THE DEMIMONDE (Pink Narcissus Press) is available March 15, 2012 is trade paperback and e-book formats.

Ash Krafton is also the author of a growing list of short stories and poetry, one poem of which was nominated for the Pushcart Prize. She resides in the heart of the Pennsylvania anthracite coal region with her family and bossy German Shepherd.
