Lyme Disease & Borrelia burgdorferi Exposed in New Online Video

The IAQ Video Network produces another educational video about environmental dangers due to exposure to environmental contaminants and pathogens.

March 16, 2012 - PRLog -- Today, the IAQ Video Network and Cochrane & Associates announced the release of another online video to help educate the public about issues that may impact their health.  The latest educational video discusses Lyme disease and Borrelia burgdorferi.

Borrelia burgdorferi is a species of Gram-negative bacteria.  It can be found across much of North America and Europe.  It is also the cause of Lyme disease, a zoonotic, vector-borne disease transmitted by ticks.

The Lyme disease bacterium is spread through the bite of infected ticks. The blacklegged tick (deer tick) spreads the disease in the northeastern, mid-Atlantic, and north-central United States, and the western blacklegged tick spreads the disease on the Pacific Coast.

“Ticks can attach to any part of the human body, but are often found in hard-to-see areas such as the groin, armpits and scalp,” reported Paul Cochrane, President of Cochrane and Associates, the company behind the IAQ Video Network and the new public outreach video.  “In most cases, the tick must be attached for 36-48 hours or more before the Lyme disease bacterium can be transmitted. We hope this video helps to educate people about ways to protect their health from this devastating bacteria spread by ticks.”
