On March 31, 2012 the African American Museum in Hempstead, Long Island will host a Free Health and Wellness Expo for the entire family featuring famed actors Danny Glover and Lou Gosset Jr. This highly anticipated event will feature free health care screenings ,prostate, HIV, blood pressure testing, etc., free nutrition and health seminars, aerobic s, zumba classes, health information, prizes, several health care vendors, and a free lunch. The expo will feature a guest celebrity appearance from Long Island’s own accomplished TV star, Kene Holliday, most famous for his role in Matlock. Famed actors Danny Glover and Lou Gosset Jr. will also provide memorable messages of encouragement and support. This first time ever event is a collaboration of New Life Magazine Inc., 100 Black Men of Long Island, Inc., The Whitney Johnson Foundation, and Urologist Doctor Erol Mallett & Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc. Participants will be able to get their blood pressure checked, get tips on how to keep fit, participate in aerobics, get free health screenings and sit in on seminars on how to preserve their health. The goal of the Health and Wellness conference is to raise awareness of health care issues that affect the Long Island community and to help close the health care gap that exists for at risk communities. This Conference objective is to improve the quality of health for the Long Island community by providing education and by encouraging early prevention. As the economy continues to put pressure on families and their health care, these types of events are critical in helping keep families healthy. About: 100 Black Men of Long Island, Inc. The purpose of the 100 Black Men of Long Island is to improve the quality of life for all people on Long Island, particularly those of African-American heritage; achieve 100 percent equality in all aspects of community life, including the elimination of bigotry and discrimination; About: Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc. The Kappa Eta Chapter, Inc. of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc. is an organization of registered professional nurses and nursing students, whose mission is to provide meaningful public service to develop healthy Long Island communities. Johnson Foundation’s mission is to provide educational services to struggling academic students who are at risk in education and health (mental health). The Foundation’s goal is to reach out to students in Central Islip, Brentwood, Bay Shore, Wyandanch and surrounding areas. The Foundation strives to maintain educational programs throughout the academic year to measure student’s progress and to provide them a support system to keep them on the path to success. About: Dr. Errol Mallett. Dr. Mallet is currently Director of Urology of the Central Brooklyn Medical Group and maintains a thriving private practice with Plaza Urological Associates in Brooklyn. He was formerly head of infertility at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center and assistant professor of Urology at Albert Einstein College of medicine. Dr. Mallett is board certified in Urology, is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM).
