PlotWatt to Feature Green Button Compatibility

March 22, 2012 - PRLog -- Durham, NC –As part of its mission to help individuals and businesses reduce their energy bills, PlotWatt announced today it will feature Green Button compatibility in its upcoming product release.

Green Button is a White House-inspired, industry-led initiative to empower consumers to securely get their own energy data in a consumer- and computer-friendly format, so they can use new tools and services to take control of their energy bills. The technical standard behind Green Button was developed by industry and facilitated with a public-private partnership, the Smart Grid Interoperability Panel (SGIP).

PlotWatt’s algorithms analyze smart meter data in real-time to help people understand their electricity usage and save money. Utilizing data from existing smart meters enables the company to offer their product for free, generating insight that would otherwise cost more than a thousand dollars per home in monitoring hardware alone. The PlotWatt Energy Dashboard focuses on providing easy-to-understand feedback and recommendations, putting price tags on the energy usage of each major appliance. Currently in Beta, PlotWatt provides customized money-saving recommendations that have cut users’ energy bills by as much as 50 percent (e.g. “Your water heater appears to be malfunctioning. Replacing it will save you $18 per month”).  

Starting in early Q2 2012, PlotWatt will allow anyone with Green Button data to create a free account and take advantage of some of the company’s pioneering analytics.

The commercial offering includes analysis and recommendations – delivered via Web, email, mobile and SMS – that will save businesses more than 10 percent on their monthly electricity bills.
