Follow on Google News | South Florida Theatre to Be Named after Actress Bhetty WaldronThe theatre segment of Bob Carter’s Actor’s Workshop & Repertory Co. (Actor’s Rep.) will be named in honor of the late performer Bhetty Waldron, Bob Carter announced today.
By: Brenda Moore Robinson Bhetty, a much-revered local professional actress, teacher, Toastmaster and playwright, passed away in 2004 at age 63. Carter said Bhetty grew up in Palm Beach County, left for professional training and TV and movie roles and returned to give back her talent and experience to others. “She helped many people of all ages to get established in the performing arts and touched many hearts on stage. She had founded and run the Quest Theatre, and now we have one with her name on it.” Dedication events will begin Saturday, April 14 with a 2 p.m. showcase of the Rep’s Youth Academy and Youth Actors Guild performing songs, scenes and monologues. At 3 p.m. multicultural scenes and monologues will be presented first in English, then Creole. Also demonstrated will be English, then Spanish. These illustrate some of the multicultural facets that Bhetty loved in theatre and its acting training programs. Following these performances, Avery Sommers (actress/vocalist sister of Bhetty) and Bob Carter (founder/artistic director of Actor’s Rep) will conduct a “talk back” (discussion with the audience). At 8 p.m. the evening of April 14, Avery, accompanied by The Switzer Trio, will perform her show that was a huge hit the many times it was seen at the Colony Hotel in Palm Beach, and at country clubs throughout South Florida. Dancing by the audience will be encouraged. At 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 15, a formal dedication of The Bhetty Waldron Theatre will take place. Many illustrious colleagues and friends from Bhetty’s personal, acting, theatre, writing, teaching, and Toastmasters worlds will offer live and written tributes. Pastor Tony Siders will do the dedication service, and lead the Palm Beach Super Choir. A large pictorial display of Bhetty’s theatre period will be on display, courtesy of photographer Bevins Bennett. Waldron was a highly successful actress, with TV roles in Sanford and Son, All in the Family, CSI: Miami, Miami Vice, B.L. Stryker, several films, and many plays. She started the Quest Theatre in West Palm Beach, which ran for nine years. She offered acting training there and also taught the performing arts in the U. B. Kinsey Elementary School. The public is cordially invited to these activities. There is no ticket charge for any of the events April 14 or 15. Love offering welcome.
