By: Aishah Schwartz HOUSTON, TX – Muslimah Writers Alliance member, Fatimah Ashaela Moore Ibrahim has written and illustrated her second children’s book entitled "I Love My Hijab", distributed by Creative Education and Publishing of Falls Church, Virginia. The first of five "True Heart Series" installments, "I Love My Hijab" is based on the true story of an experience Ms. Ibrahim's daughter had when she wore hijab (head scarf) for the first time in public school. "At MWA we couldn't be happier for Fatimah's achievements and applaud her commitment to upholding the teachings of Islam and aspirations toward inspiring the Muslim sisterhood," "I hope that this book will strengthen the pride that Muslim girls and women have for the reason they wear their hijabs. I want it to strengthen their personal sense of fulfilling the purpose Allah *(SWT) has for them on this earth. For girls and women of all other faiths, I pray that this book will bring a new sense of understanding," The main character is a little girl named Hadiyah, who, together with her family, recently became Muslim. Hadiyah's experiences arising from her decision to wear hijab in Western society are depicted in a way that is easy for young readers to read and understand. Hadiyah worries how her friends and classmates will react to her new form of dress and grapples with issues of self-consciousness and self-esteem. Her mother guides Hadiyah through the transition, as she not only discovers her love for the hijab, but also realizes through her journey, that her friends are more open and accepting than she thought they would be. A section of the book that is particularly interesting relates how Hadiyah meets another Muslim girl who doesn't happen to wear hijab, which touches on how not all Muslim girls or women choose to wear the headscarf. "I Love My Hijab" is a useful learning and teaching tool for girls new to Islam in addition to being an informative explanation for young readers and others who may not have previous knowledge of Islam. The book also explores the different styles of hijab, introduces terms like "dua", the Arabic word for prayer, and also contains a glossary of Islamic terms at the book's end. In addition to writing, Ms. Ibrahim is an artist, teacher and graphic designer who has produced work for numerous animated television programs. She currently works as Art Director and Lead Animator for Aakifah Creative Multimedia Productions in addition to being a member of Muslimah Writers Alliance, an internationally based collaboration of Muslim women writers and advocates working to counter negative and inaccurate perceptions of members of the Muslim community. Ms. Ibrahim's first publication, "YaYa and the Mystery Squad" engages children in science, while providing readers with multicultural characters as a way of showcasing ethnic and racial diversity. "Yaya and the Mystery Squad" also features real science experiments within the story that children can try, with supervision, at home.
