From February 25 to February 26, Molendyk and 74 other educational professionals took on the task of writing a bank of questions to be used in the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) this coming year. The SSAT is the premier examination given to students applying for admission to independent schools across the country and around the world. “It was an honor for me to join my colleagues from across the country to prepare the next generation of this exam. Admissions offices at hundreds of independent day and boarding schools, including Gulliver, rely on the SSAT to help them match students with schools,” said Molendyk. The SSAT Board selected test writers based on their experience, education, and subject matter expertise. Molendyk holds a Master of Education in research, measurement and evaluation. He has 10 years of teaching experience and currently teaches AP and Honors Statistics IB Math and other mathematics courses. The February writers’ conference was part of the test board’s recent initiative to update the exam, which has not been revised in a decade. The SSAT consists of two parts: a brief essay and multiple-choice sections that evaluate a student’s mathematics, reading comprehension, and verbal skills.
