White Swan at Quy Announces Support for Queens Diamond Jubilee Program

The White Swan at Stow cum Quy, Cambridge has today announced its support and sponsorship of the Diamond Jubilee Programme organised by the residents of the village. What looks like being a celebration to remember is definitely on the cards

April 26, 2012 - PRLog -- The White Swan is a 17th Century freehouse and restaurant located in the heart of the historic and picturesque village on the outskirts of Cambridge. The village is proud of its heritage and its village pub. "The Queens Diamond jubilee is a time for great celebration for people of all ages and we are planning a fantastic series of events. We are delighted to have the support and sponsorship of Tyche Inns for this" Says Ray Jakes who has helped organise the festivities. Gerry Skews, Director of Tyche Inns and Martin Read who runs The White Swan are fully supporting the activities which start on Friday 1st June 2012. Mr Skews, said, "It seems most of the villagers are getting involved in the celebrations, the "Water Games" are apparently a crowd pleaser and Tyche Inns is pleased to sposor the event". A full program of activities will be posted on the web site and tickets for several functions will be available for sale in the Pub and the Post Office.

Several breweries will be offering Jubilee Ales and we are delighted to offer some fantastic real ales to all visitors.

You are invited to join us in celebration of this Historic event.

There will be a series of activities taking place over the Bank Holiday weekend, with a couple of competitions as well.

Friday the 1st, 7.30pm, an evening of music and dance with “Macca”, a local band in the Village Hall. Tickets for this event will cost :- £7 for adults and £4 for under 16s (or £20 for a family ticket.)

There will be a very reasonable bar (but for licence reasons you are asked not to bring your own drinks) and you are invited to bring along your own food to make a real evening of it.
 
Programme for Monday the 4th of June

12.30 – anyone who wants to take part in the procession should meet at Bush Farm (down Station Road).  Streets/groups/individuals are invited to organise floats of all sorts – tractors, cars, horses, bicycles etc… the more imaginative the better.  Anyone who wants to walk alongside the floats is also welcome.  The procession will go up Station Road, along Main Street, around Herrings Close and then back up to the Rec. Stopping by at the Pub on both legs of the journey

2.30 – crowning of the village Queen and Princess

2.45 – Stalls open, including tea, cakes and games

4.00-5.30 – Knockout games – if people can organise teams of 6 before the event that would be great.  We are planning to have adult teams for everyone 15 and above, and children’s teams for those from 6 to 14.  If you don’t have a team beforehand, just come along and organise it on the day.

5.30-6.30 time for those who have got wet during the knockout games to go home and change before the Rounders!

There will also be a Hog Roast available from 2.00 – 5.00 ish and BBQ from around 6.00 – 8.00.   a  BAR 2.00pm till late. We are hoping to have live music afternoon and from around 7pm onwards.  

Competitions:
Photo competition: Photos of Quy, any Quy event and the Jubilee or of animals should be delivered to Ray Jakes at 10 Albert Road before the 31st of July.  Any photos received before the 4th of June will be displayed during the Jubilee celebrations.  Prize winners will be shown in the following Jackdaw Chatter.

Best Decorated House:  Anyone who wishes to decorate their house for the Jubilee will be in with a chance of winning the best decorated house competition.  This will be judged on the 4th of June, and winners will be announced during the afternoon.

Volunteers Needed!
Anyone willing to help out by providing cakes for the cake stall should deliver them to Margaret Jakes at 10 Albert Road by 10a.m. on the 4th of June.

Monday the 4th, noon onwards, a village float procession ending at the Recreation Ground for an afternoon of stalls, food, fun and games

Tuesday the 5th,  3.00pm an afternoon tea in the village Hall organised by the Quy Jackdaw Club.
Details of the timing for this will be circulated nearer the time.
