Wendy A. Morriarty Appointed State President of ‘Ohana Health Plan

April 30, 2012 - PRLog -- Tampa, Florida (May 1, 2012) — WellCare Health Plans, Inc.  today announced that Wendy A. Morriarty has been appointed state president of ‘Ohana Health Plan (‘Ohana), a health plan offered by WellCare Health Insurance of Arizona, Inc. Ms. Morriarty joined WellCare in 2005 and has played a key leadership role in Hawai’i since 2009. She has been serving as ‘Ohana’s acting state president since February 2012.

“Wendy has dedicated the past three years to understanding and meeting the needs of our ‘Ohana members,” said Chrissie Cooper, president of WellCare’s Florida and Hawai’i Division. “We are confident that her extensive experience, demonstrated leadership abilities and clinical background will continue to enhance the health and lives of our members in Hawai’i.”

Ms. Morriarty joined WellCare in 2005 as a manager of market expansion. She was promoted to director of health services in November 2007 and began her work on ‘Ohana contract and implementation initiatives. She accepted the position of market director for ‘Ohana in 2009 and relocated to the Big Island of Hawai’i. In this role, she was directly responsible for overseeing health services implementation and member transition initiatives during the plan’s launch. In 2010, she moved to Oahu, after being promoted to vice president of field and clinical services for ‘Ohana, and in February 2012, she was tasked with the responsibility of leading all ‘Ohana operations and teams.

Ms. Morriarty has a strong background in clinical care with a focus on behavioral health. Prior to joining WellCare, she worked for both a community mental health center and an inpatient residential treatment center. In both positions, she was responsible for leading clinical staff and ensuring the integrity of the organizations’ quality programs. Ms. Morriarty earned her nursing degree from the Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in Troy, New York, and her bachelor’s in human biology degree from the State University of New York at Albany. She also earned her Master of Public Health in Health Care Management and Organizations degree from the University of South Florida.
