May 1, 2012 - PRLog -- The International Food, Wine & Travel Writers Association's (IFWTWA) prestigious Excellence Awards are awarded quarterly and recognize the best of the best in culinary and hospitality around the world. The award nominations are recommended by IFWTWA members, carefully evaluated by IFWTWA's Excellence Awards Committee, and finally approved by IFWTWA's Board of Directors.

Recipients for the 1st quarter of 2012 include two international recipients: a Hospitality Excellence Award for Katherine Frelon, chef/owner of La Ferme de la Lochere in Marginy le Cahouet, France, and a Culinary Excellence Award for Hervé Laurent, the French Master, chef/owner of the School of Culinary Arts Central America.

Katherine Frelon earned IFWTWA's a Hospitality Excellence Award for her outstanding concept in hospitality. Ms. Frelon specializes in providing custom gourmet vacations in Burgundy for her guests. Her guest room amenities are exceptional in quality and variety. During their stays, guests learn various aspects of French cooking, accompany Ms. Frelon on excursions to markets, dine in Michelin star restaurants, enjoy guided wine tours and more.

Hervé Laurent manages the School of Culinary Arts. He graduated from the Hotel and Tourism University in Bordeaux, France, with experience as Master Chef Le Cordon Bleu, media/broadcasting, cookbook author and culinary consultant. He was awarded the Culinary Excellence Award for establishing a successful and exceptional culinary school in El Salvador where his interns gain positions at Relais & Chateaus. In addition to classic French techniques, he stresses adapting recipes to local ingredients. According to the IFWTWA member who nominated him, “Chef Laurent teaches in French, Spanish and English, and is a stickler on safety, cleanliness, and being environmentally aware. His goal when starting his school was to raise the employment opportunities for poor students. Now he has students worldwide, yet stills maintain his standard of excellence, and is an exceptional instructor and chef.”
