The National Eid Toy and Gift Drive 2012 will begin July 21 with collection boxes being placed by volunteers in metro Atlanta businesses and places of worship. The drive is annual and was started to ensure children from low income homes in the Islamic community and children who receive childcare services from Muslim owned/managed daycare facilities who receive government funding to supplement their fees are given toys and gifts during the celebration that begins immediately following the 29 or 30 days of the Ramadan fast. Many of the parents of non-Muslim children who receive toys during this time put them away for their Christmas and other holiday celebrations. The drive also ships toys to Muslim families at military bases and isolated locations where there may not be an Islamic community nearby. This year the drive will ship toys/gifts to Ghana to ensure that 50 orphan children who attend Muslimun Adeiso Islamic School receive toys and gifts for Eid Al Fitr (recurring days of happiness). For more information about the drive this year or to sign up as a volunteer call 770-255-8500 between the hours of 9 am-5 pm Monday-Friday. End
