May 6, 2012 - PRLog -- Knowing proper massage etiquette can make your visit to the massage therapist a more enjoyable and satisfying experience. To help people who may be unfamiliar with proper massage etiquette out, Sarah Daniels (http://massagewithsarah.com) has compiled a few guidelines to help you better understand and practice good massage etiquette.

Scheduling
Book your massage in advance to ensure the day and time will be convenient for your schedule. Occasionally there will be a same day appointment available due to a cancellation. If you need to cancel an appointment please give 24 hours notice.

Discuss any injuries or health concerns you may have with your therapist as you plan what type of massage will be the most effective.

Upon Arriving
You will fill out a client intake form which includes your health history, medications and what benefits you want from massage therapy. It is important to include medications because they effect the types of massage you can receive.

Discuss your preferences with your therapist about depth of pressure in massage or any other concerns. Your therapist is there to help you and loves to receive feedback, even during the  massage so that your needs will be met. Let your therapist know if you would prefer to not have your face, head or neck worked on.

Your therapist will leave the room while you disrobe directing you to lie on the table between the sheets either supine (face up) or prone (face down). It is advisable to remove all jewelry prior to your massage.

Modesty and Massage
The therapist will keep you draped with sheets through the entire massage. Many people will fully disrobe, which is ideal, allowing the therapist to work on all your muscle groups without hinderance. However, the massage therapist is happy to work around your preferences and you may disrobe to the level you are comfortable. Your comfort is of paramount importance during a massage.

The Massage
Your job is to relax, the therapist will move your arms, neck and legs as required while keeping your draped. Remember to advise your therapist if you need more or less pressure during the massage.

During the course of the massage the therapist may use a bolster under your knees or ankles to relieve pressure on the low back. The face rest is advised to use while laying prone to allow proper relaxation of your neck. Other items for your comfort are available, such as, an electric blanket and other props.

At the close of your massage the therapist may gently touch the small of your back or ankles while thanking you for the opportunity you have given to be served. After the therapist leaves the room you will have the opportunity to dress.

Open the door when you are ready and the therapist will give you water. At this time you may make payment and schedule your next appointment. Tips are customary though not required. You may take more time to rest in the foyer if necessary prior to driving. It is important that you do not leave if you feel light-headed.

Massage therapy is a wonderful way to enhance your total health and wellness. Thank you.
