May 15, 2012 - PRLog -- WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. -- The Travel Channel will be back in Wisconsin all day on Wednesday, May 16, to highlight Wilderness Hotel & Golf Resort, America’s largest waterpark resort located in Wisconsin Dells, for an upcoming “Extreme Water Parks” program.
According to Joe Eck, general manager of the Wilderness Hotel & Golf Resort, “We are thrilled that the Travel Channel has chosen to include our resort in this special program. With nearly 500,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor waterparks, there is a lot of things for the show’s producers to consider highlighting. However, we’ve been told that they are most interested in filming our resort’s Hurricane thrill ride as well as our Great Wave indoor wave pool.”
The Hurricane is billed as Wisconsin Dells’ tallest indoor four-person, family raft ride. It starts out by plummeting thrill seekers down a 58 foot drop at a 45 degree angle. Then it drops them at a pulse-pounding 20 mph into a funnel. There, they are propelled up one side of the huge funnel and down the opposite side, where they experience momentary feeling of zero-gravity before splashing into a landing pool below.
The Great Wave is the country’s largest indoor wave pool measuring 15,450 square feet and containing more than 270,000 gallons of water. It operates on two giant 125 horse- power blowers that are capable of producing waves up to five feet tall.
This is the second time that the Wilderness Hotel & Golf Resort will be featured on a Travel Channel “Extreme” show. In 2009, the resort was one of eight properties from around the world to be highlighted on an “Extreme Resorts” program.
Management is also hoping the Travel Channel producers might take a moment to focus on the construction of their new Lunar Loop and Cosmic Drop extreme thrills slides currently under construction, and opening for summer 2012 in the Lost World Outdoor Waterpark.
The Lunar Loop will propel daring guests at speeds of nearly 40 mph into a nearly vertical spiral over the Lost World Adventure River while the Cosmic Drop will be a straight five-story plunge that feels like a heart-pounding free fall.
These extreme water slides are not the only new thing at the Wilderness. In January, the resort unveiled the indoor Northern Lights Sky Ropes Course. It allows adventure enthusiasts to take fun to a whole new level at our resort as they climb through 42 challenges in varying degrees of difficulty all while being harnessed in 30 feet above the Northern Lights Mega Arcade at the Wilderness Resort.
The Wilderness Territory consists of over 600 wooded acres in Wisconsin Dells and is home to Wilderness Hotel & Golf Resort, which features 444 guest rooms, 40 vacation villas, 76 Frontier Condominiums and 35 cabins. It is also home to Wilderness on the Lake which features 108 luxurious two and three bedroom condominium units overlooking Lake Delton; and Glacier Canyon Lodge, which features 460 upscale condominium units.
Combined, these three properties offer four indoor and four outdoor waterparks that total nearly 500,000 square feet – that’s over 12 football fields of extreme water fun! The Territory is also home to Wild Rock Golf Club; The Woods 9-Hole Family Course; Dodge ‘Em City; Timberland Play Park, a 35,000 square-foot, four story adventure with ball blasters, slides and crawl spaces; the OK Corral Lazer Tag Arena; The Wild Abyss and Wild Buccaneer indoor 3-D black light mini golf courses; Bumper Boats; Tombstone Town Haunted Hotel and Mineshaft Mirror Maze; Go-Karts and Kiddy-Karts; Wisconsin’s first canopy zip line tour; and outdoor Jurassic mini golf.
Many dining options are available at the Wilderness Territory, including: The Wild Canyon Café, a family-style restaurant; Field’s at the Wilderness - Premier Steak House, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright protégé James Dresser; Sarento’s Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria; Monk’s Bar & Grill; Thirsty Buffalo Saloon; Survivors Bar and Grill; and a wide variety of grab and go options at various waterparks and in coffee shops.
The Wilderness Territory is easily accessible from Interstate 90 and 94, and located just minutes from popular attractions such as Dells Boat Tours, the Original Wisconsin Ducks, Tommy Bartlett Show, Ho-Chunk Casino and Tanger Outlet Mall.
