The concert offers a rare opportunity to experience the artistry of Nakamatsu – winner of the Tenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition – and Buechner – winner of the 1984 Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition and bronze medalist of the 1986 Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition – in a relaxed setting that offers the opportunity for audience interaction. Joining them in what promises to be an unforgettable night is Iggy Jang, concertmaster of the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra and grand prizewinner of the 1989 Rodolfo Lipizer International Violin Competition. The program features Mozart's Sonata for Violin and Piano in B flat (K. 454) and Piano Sonata for Four Hands in C (K. 521), as well as Dvořák's Piano Quintet in A, Op. 81. "What a thrill it is to return to the Aloha International Piano Festival!" said Nakamatsu. "The chamber concert in particular has something for everyone. The Mozart Sonata for Four Hands (K. 521) is an exciting, lyrical, virtuosic creation – a showcase for both pianists. The Dvořák Quintet remains one of the most beloved works in the entire chamber repertoire. Its thrilling piano and string writing and unforgettable melodies will cap what will definitely be a spectacular concert!" Each year, AIPF welcomes concert pianists, students, teachers and music lovers from around the world for a weeklong celebration of the piano. Now in its seventh year, AIPF runs from June 16 to 23, 2012 at the Hawaii Convention Center. In 2012, world-renowned concert pianists Kevin Kenner, Jon Nakamatsu, Sara Davis Buechner, Lisa Nakamichi and Noriko Uenaka, as well as pianist/composer John Bayless and violinist Ignace Jang lead the Festival Faculty who will perform, teach in the Piano Academy and judge two competitions as part of the Aloha International Piano Competition. Several events are free. All events are open to the public!
