June 11, 2012 - PRLog -- “Many molds can cause health effects,” states an Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Fact Sheet on Mold and Your Health.  The document was produced to inform the state’s residents of the possible health effects associated with elevated levels of mold in indoor environments.  Another document produced by the IDPH is Moisture in the Home.  This second document also explains how moisture can result in mold growth to cause not only health issues, but also potential structural problems in a building.

One of the leading champions in Illinois for educating the public about mold in homes, offices and schools is Ed Chambers, the President of EC2, Inc.  EC2 has a long history of providing the state’s residents with information along with testing and consulting services to identify indoor air quality problems.

“Over 50 million Americans suffer from allergies,” reported Mr. Chambers.  “Many people suffer month after month and the cause of their allergies may be due to elevated levels of mold in their homes or places of business.   Many people don’t realize it can take as little as 24 to 48 hours for mold to begin to grow indoors when moisture is present in a structure.  Mold is also a known asthma trigger.  For people with asthma it is all the more important that the air they breathe in their homes, offices and schools is free of elevated levels of mold.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports, “Inhaling or breathing in mold can cause an asthma attack. Get rid of mold in all parts of your home to help control your asthma attacks. Keep the humidity level in your home between 35% and 50%. In hot, humid climates, you may need to use an air conditioner or a dehumidifier or both. Fix water leaks, which allow mold to grow behind walls and under floors.”

EC2 has sponsored an online video about mold and its role as an asthma trigger.  It can be seen at:
