Newly Released Book: The Tierra Solution

June 20, 2012 - PRLog -- While world leaders convene at the Rio+20 Conference to discuss how to reduce global poverty and ensure environmental protection, while economic storms rage in the Euro zone, the U.S., and now also in emerging economies, solutions to these crises are offered in a new book called The Tierra Solution: Resolving Climate Change Through Monetary Transformation by Frans Verhagen.

Verhagen, a sustainability sociologist, proposes a solution to the dual threat of climate change and financial crises—the Tierra Solution. He calls for a banking system without the privilege of money creation, a credit-based financial system governed by a Global Central Bank, and most importantly, a carbon standard for the international monetary system with the Tierra as its unit of account.

Just a few years ago when the economies appeared to be doing fine and climate change was simply a matter of discussion, The Tierra Solution might have been considered idealistic or academic. FRANS C. VERHAGEN is a sustainability sociologist with a Ph.D. in the sociology of international development from Columbia University. He founded the Queens Green Party, the Riverside Church Ecology Task Force, the Ecolinguistics Commission and the International Institute for Monetary Transformation (timun.net). He has worked around the world and online teaching environmental policies and sustainability.
