Georgetown Chamber honors GHS with Excellence in Industry Award

Aug. 1, 2012 - PRLog -- Georgetown, S.C.   — Georgetown Hospital System has earned the Excellence in Industry award from the Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce.

Presented at the chamber’s annual meeting July 26, the award recognizes Georgetown County businesses that have achieved excellence in their field and contributed to regional economic growth.

McRoy Skipper, interim chairman of GHS Board of Trustees, said he was honored to accept the award on behalf of a group of professionals who have influenced health-care service delivery in the community for years.  

“For over 60 years we have worked diligently to accomplish our mission of providing high-quality health care to the citizens of Georgetown County and surrounding areas,” Skipper said. “Our goal has always been to work continuously to improve the care we are able to provide and to meet and exceed the expectations and needs of our patients and customers. We will continue to work toward this goal now and well into the future.”  

GHS has 1,600 employees and an annual payroll exceeding $78 million dollars. More than 346 physicians maintain privileges at GHS facilities, and nearly 266 volunteers give their time and energy to support patient care and other endeavors. In FY 2010, GHS provided a total community benefit of $2,811,742.  

GHS has grown from one small community hospital to a robust hospital system that includes two hospital facilities with 298 acute care beds, seven outpatient rehab facilities, a wound care facility, a fitness center, a free-standing imaging and breast health center, a radiation therapy center, two pain management centers and numerous hospital-owned or operated physician practices.

Georgetown Hospital System is a private, not-for-profit organization. The system consists of Georgetown Memorial Hospital, Waccamaw Community Hospital and several facilities throughout Horry and Georgetown counties.
