Smartphone Study Reveals Shocking Results For Presidential Candidates

A recent study by Harris Interactive is making waves by suggesting that smartphone users may be more pro-Obama. The results suggest that it could dramatically skew the upcoming election.

Aug. 13, 2012 - PRLog -- A recent study by Harris Interactive is making tremendous waves in the political community. The initial data suggests that smartphone users are 58% more likely to vote for president Obama than Mitt Romney.

According to leading smartphone marketing expert Frankie Fihn of http://www.bigideabusiness.com, "This just demonstrates the viral nature of mobile phones. It's estimated that by the end of 2012, 50% of Americans will have a smartphone according to Tech Crunch. We're talking about a demographic that is bigger than any other population segment. If political leaders aren't effectively using these mobile marketing strategies in their campaigns then they have little chance of winning. It can literally make or break a campaign. Business owners should be paying attention."

The statistics also suggest that 56% of Obama-oriented smartphone owners possess a college diploma, while only 35% of the same group plan to offer their support to Romney.
Income diversity suggested a similar sentiment as subjects with an annual household income greater than  $75,000 are 49% Obama supporters compared to 39% for Romney in the same wealth segment.

“The 18% margin of difference in support is shocking, given the close polls we see when the entire country is asked whom they expect to support in the presidential race,” said Krishna Subramanian, CMO of Velti. “It goes to show that the smartphone market is becoming a whole new demographic that candidates must take into consideration.”

Smartphone trends are still projecting growth despite the current economic climate.

According to Nielsen, as of February 2012, 49.7% of US mobile subscribers own smartphones.

“The mobile OS market is now unquestionably a two-horse race due to the dominance of Android and iOS,” Kevin Restivo, a senior research analyst at IDC, said in a statement.

According to IDC, 144.9 million smartphones were sold worldwide in Q1 2012 alone. Total sales in 2011 were an estimated 491.4 million units worldwide.

According to Samsung Electronics Co. and other phone makers shipped nearly 105 million Android smartphones in the April-June quarter of 2012, giving Android 68 percent of the worldwide market, up from 47 percent last year.

While the political implications are not fully known, it is estimated to have a significant contribution on the upcoming election.
