Jaipur: Maand Gaayan Rajasthani Folk Music Festival in Jaipur

Jaipur: Maand music festival is inaugurated in Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur on August 26, 2012. The 3 days long Maand music festival is organised by joint efforts of Sangeet Nakat Academy of New Delhi and Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur. On first day of the music festival, during morning session, experts of Rajasthani Raga Maand gave lectures and live demonstrations on Maand.

Sh. Vijay Verma, who has the oldest to latest collection of Maand singing styles, said that Rajasthani Raga Maand is not based on ascending (Aroh) and descending (Avroh) order of melodies. But it is based upon the compositon (called bandish). All other Indian Ragas are based on some ascending and descending order of melodies, but even without them the Raga Maand is the queen of Rajasthani Ragas. And therefore Maand is a folk Raga instead of classical Raga. Sh. Vijay Verma gave a lecture on "Maand - An overview with special reference to Rajasthan". After that Sh. Chandraprakash from Ajmer presented a demonstration on "Singing of Karkha compositions in Maand style under Haweli Music". Sh. Vidyadhar Vyas of Mumbai Dayaram Bhaand of Merta city expressed their thoughts on Rajasthani Raga Maand.

In evening, renowned Rajasthani folk artists Samandar Khan Manganiyar (from Jaipur), Shamsuddin (from Didwana) and Banarasi Babu (from Jodhpur) spread the fragrance of deserts land by singing different varieties of Rajasthani Raga Maand. The evening show of Maand music festival was started by giving a tribute to the legend artist of Maand Allah Jilai Bai.

Samandar Khan Manganiyar presented "Chadhya Bhanwar ji Sinhaa Rii Shikar" and "Kacchhi Kariya Mhare Doleji" in Maand style. Sh. Shamsuddin ji presented devoational Maand "Bana Mhane Pyara Laago Dashrath Rajkumar", patriotic Maand "Mharo Jungle Mangal Des, Mhane Pyaro Lage Sa", Shringar Maand in Raga Jaunpuri "Baadeela ne Mhare". After that Banarasi Babu of Jodhpur city presented Nagauri Maand "Chaalo Chaalo Nagana re Desh". He also presented Maand related to weather "Laage Re Chaumaaso", "Sakhi Ayo Ayo Re Sawan" and "Badeela Mhane ek.."
