September is Festival Month in Walnut Creek California

Sept. 6, 2012 - PRLog -- The Lafayette Art & Wine Festival, held annualy on the third weekend in September, is the largest event in Lamorinda and one of the five biggest outdoor festivals in Contra Costa County.
Over 50,000 guests are expected to stroll among stalls of art, handmade crafts, sampling foods from top local restaurants, and enjoying quality wines and microbrews.

Lafayette Art & Wine Festival is a three time winner of the Diablo Magazine Best of the East Bay’s Best Festival.

2012 is the 75th Anniversary of the Annual Walnut Festival in Walnut Creek, CA.

The first Festival held in 1911 was a celebration of the harvest of grapes and was called 'The Grape Festival'. During prohibition, grapes were replaced with walnuts as the cash crop of the area and the vineyards became walnut groves. In 1936, the harvest celebration became known as The Walnut Festival. The Walnut Festival Association was officially incorporated in 1938 and except for a suspended period during World War II, has been celebrated as the popular annual community event it remains today.

As Walnut Creek, California  has grown, and suburban developments have replaced walnut groves, the Walnut Festival Association has maintained the tradition of producing fundraising events for the benefit of the community.
