Applebee’s ® is Official Fresno Sponsor for Susan G. Komen Central Valley Race for the Cure

Sept. 19, 2012 - PRLog -- FRESNO, Calif. - Sept. 18, 2012 - Applebee’s in Fresno has partnered with the Susan G. Komen Central Valley Race for the Cure as an official sponsor for the Rock the Race Initiative, supporting the fight against breast cancer. Serving as a gold sponsor, Applebee’s will donate its time and volunteer efforts, as well as provide food for participants and gift cards for top fundraisers.

Throughout the month of October, Applebee’s will host a Komen Running Ribbon Campaign, allowing guests to donate $1 or more for the Komen Central Valley affiliate. In addition, Applebee’s will host a Dining to Donate all-day event on Oct. 20, in which 20 percent of each guest’s bill will be donated to Komen Central Valley. The Dining to Donate flyer for Komen Central Valley must be presented at the time of purchase.

Between Sept. 11 and Sept. 25, every registered race participant who raises $150 in online donations will be entered to win a $100 Applebee’s gift card. Donations must be made directly to the race participant. A total of seven winners will be chosen the week of Sept. 25, Oct. 8 and Oct. 19. Those who have already raised more than $150 online will be measured on how much their funds increase through Sept. 25. Winners of the Applebee’s gift cards will be announced on Komen Central Valley’s Facebook page.

Breast cancer survivor, Carolyn Montez Jorgensen read about the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® in a running magazine.  Dedicated to saving lives and ending breast cancer, Carolyn and passionate volunteers hosted the first Komen Central Valley Race for the Cure in 1999.  Shortly thereafter, the Affiliate was incorporated.  Since its inception in 1999, over $2.6 million has been invested in community-based programs for education, screening and treatment.  Over $700,000 has supported the Susan G. Komen for the Cure National Grant Program for breast cancer research.  Komen Central Valley is the only nonprofit  in Fresno County funding grants that provide no-cost/low-cost mammograms, financial assistance to breast cancer survivors, diagnostic follow-up testing and culturally diverse breast cancer education programs.
