North Carolina Atheist awarded Carolinas Freethinker Outstanding Achievement Award 2012

Sept. 20, 2012 - PRLog -- Justin Griffith, creator of the Rock Beyond Belief festival at Fort Bragg this year is to be honored at the forthcoming Carolinas Secular Conference with an award for his outstanding achievement in creating a groundbreaking festival marking the important contribution the Secular community continues to make in the Carolinas region and across the United States.
Despite overwhelming odds, and many hurdles, Justin Griffith demonstrated that those of all faith, or none, have as true American right to a celebration among the military as any other. His actions had been in response to a Christian rally held by the Billy Graham company, an event which had caused many to question the military commitment to respect all varieties of belief or non-belief. Ours is a country that embraces, within our constitution, diversity and freedom of religion as a core principle and Justin helped demonstrate this by bringing the large percentage of non-theists together at Fort Bragg for an outstanding festival of music, comedy and family.
For many years Justin Griffith has been a proud and active member of our country’s Army. Like so many patriots, he has seen the need for a constitutionally mandated equality of faith recognition. Although the non-theistic community remains a minority, albeit a substantial one, he saw the need for our men and women in uniform to have the same expression of community and family as any other. Justin fought hard for these rights to be recognized and in return the non-theist, Freethinking community chooses to honor him for this.
Our community now numbers over 30% of the youngest generation and increasingly seeks to have their voice recognized in a civilized but genuine manner. In creating the Rock Beyond Belief festival Justin achieved his aim of demonstrating the positive contribution our Secular community makes, not only in everyday life, but also to the defense of our nation.
It is for this reason that the Freethinking community is eager to award his actions on behalf of all Americans and will be presenting him with an Outstanding achievement award at this year’s Carolinas Secular Conference, an event that unites and celebrates the growing positive Freethought, Atheist and Humanist community that plays a key role in our nation.
We celebrate as another patriotic member of the non-theistic community stands up for true American values and are proud his is willing to accept this award for his work in demonstrating our values of equality and positive commitment to society.
Rock Beyond Belief was a genuine success that is now echoing across the country and we echo that in our award to Sgt Justin Griffith.
