Follow on Google News | Motorcyclist With MS To Set World Record for MS AwarenessSEPTEMBER 29, 2012 Paul Pelland, a Londonderry, NH resident and former long distance motorcycle competitor will be kicking off his Endless Road Tour, a million mile journey to raise awareness and funds for MS by setting a new world record!
By: www.longhaulpaul.com Multiple Sclerosis is a progressive autoimmune disease that attacks the central nervous system. Currently there is no cure. To set the record, and in addition to documenting official start and end witnesses and timed receipts, odometer recordings and times, Paul must arrive before 11:00 am. Hopefully he will be just in time to join the spectators and friends already enjoying free food, demo rides, door prizes, and great deals on bikes. The open house is 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. National Powersports is sponsoring the event, and will also donate $100 to MS for each motorcycle sold during this event. Well-wishers, friends and fellow riders who can’t make the event are encouraged to help out by sponsoring one of the motorcycles or some of the miles ridden. Donations are being accepted directly on the National MS Society’s website, http://main.nationalmssociety.org/ Riding a standard Saddlesore 1000 in 24 hours is quite difficult in itself for most riders, and proper documenting it can get you into the prestigious Ironbutt Association. Proper planning, fuel and food management and having all the stars aligned just right is what it takes. When Paul was asked why anyone would try to do a Saddlesore 1000 and throw in the absurdity of stopping and switching motorcycles 100 times in the middle of an already grueling ride, he replied, “One hundred people living with MS will have one hundred different symptoms and levels of progression, but together we declare it is a debilitating pain in the BUTT!” Paul, who was diagnosed with MS in 2005 after experiencing weakness and numbness in his hands as well as cognitive difficulties, has begun an amazing one million mile ride for MS, attending and speaking at various MS patient events across the United States. Along the way, Paul has pledged to raise money by attempting various long distance challenges and records. This 100 SADDLES-Sore 1000 is his first! Next spring he will attempt another record by riding 50,000 miles in 50 days, all in the name of MS. Before getting his diagnosis, Paul was a top ten finisher of the Ironbutt Rally, an 11 day 11,000 mile motorcycle endurance event known as, “The World’s Toughest Motorcycle Competition.” The entire million mile journey will be chronicled in real time on the website www.longhaulpaul.com. “Everything will be fair game,” says Paul, who only recently made his diagnosis public. “Subscribers of my blog will see my successes and my failures, when I laugh, and when I cry. I will post every breakdown, whether they be mine or the bike’s!” When asked why he decided to start this epic adventure, he answers with a grin, “I once was told a cure for MS was a million miles away, so I figured I would just go get it, and bring it back.” For more information about the event contact: National Powersports distributors 701 Riverview Dr. Pembroke, NH 603-410-4120 www.nationalpowersports.net More about Paul and his Endless Road Tour can be found at www.longhaulpaul.com.
