Oct. 1, 2012 - PRLog -- During the historic spring of 2011, the whole world watched as millions of Arabs poured into the streets and demanded freedom from their oppressive regimes.  Inspired by the courage and conviction of their fellow citizens, musicians from the underground Arab music scene composed a real-time soundtrack to revolution.  Wielding microphones and musical instruments as weapons for justice and dignity, the musicians of the Arab Spring helped topple dictators and gave voice to a movement that continues today.

Now, the sound of revolution takes center stage in “SING FREEDOM”, a new, 10-episode, half-hour TV series from TPI.  Captured in HD in 15 cities in eight countries, “SING FREEDOM” showcases the musical performers who often risked bullets, police beatings and prison to denounce tyrants, rally protestors, remember martyrs and commemorate successes.  The music of “SING FREEDOM” is angry, humorous, poignant, ironic, defiant, surprising and always heartfelt.

“SING FREEDOM” is hosted by Mohamed Hassan, an Egyptian DJ and composer who saw anti-Mubarak demonstrators beaten, tear-gassed and shot at Tahrir Square.  “I had a choice,” Hassan recalls.  “Either return home and hide in my usual shell or cross the bridge to dignity and freedom, no matter what.  I stepped over fear and shouted ‘freedom’ at the top of my lungs.”

“SING FREEDOM” features Egyptian troubadour Ramy Essam, Tunisian rapper El General, Egyptian indie-rockers Taxi, Tunisian guitarist Bendir Man, Tunisian hip-hop artist Ferid Estrengherio, Egyptian folk band Eskenderella, Algerian folk singer Rabah Donquishoot, classical Syrian vocalist Khater Dawa, Syrian duo Amr and Yazan, and more.

TPI exhibits at MIPCOM in Cannes, France from 8-11 October, 2012 at stand R36.04.  TPI produces and distributes factual content created by independent producers and directors from around the world.  Titles include TV series, feature films, documentaries and infotainment/lifestyle programs.
