Oct. 4, 2012 - PRLog -- Beijing, China – The 2012 “Game Changer” award, presented by the Graham International Implant Institute®, the training partner of GraMedica®, a global orthopedic medical device company, was presented to one of the leading foot and ankle specialists in all of China. Dr. Jian Zhong Zhang, M.D., Prof., Director of Foot and Ankle Services, Chief of the Department of Orthopaedics at Beijing TongRen Hospital and Capital Medical University, received the award during a ceremony at the 2012 TongRen Foot and Ankle Symposium, held in Beijing, China, September 14-16.

Through his career, Dr. Zhang has worked tirelessly to build a greater awareness among Chinese medical professionals on the importance of treating foot and ankle pathologies. In fact, he was the driving force that led to the opening of the first dedicated foot and ankle clinic in China. He now teaches more than 50 surgeons a year on the specifics of the foot and ankle. When possible, Dr. Zhang travels to the United States to further his training in the latest advances in this field by assisting and observing recognized foot and ankle surgeons.

Dr. Zhang shares what he learns in his travels to educate his colleagues on the most cutting-edge techniques and products on the market. Upon first hearing about HyProCure® at the 2011 6th International Congress of (the) Chinese Orthopaedic Association, Dr. Zhang immediately recognized the life-changing possibilities offered by the product. Impressed by the science supporting the device, he has been instrumental in helping the product and associated procedure, Extra-Osseous TaloTarsal Stabilization, gain acceptance among Chinese foot and ankle specialists. He has personally taken a tremendous amount of his time to educate and promote the importance of stabilizing the talotarsal mechanism.

2012 has been a ground-breaking year for foot and ankle surgery in China with the first ever foot cadaver course for surgeons taking place at the 2012 TongRen Foot and Ankle Symposium. Dr. Zhang’s foot and ankle clinic has set a standard, as orthopedic hospitals throughout China are taking notice of the foot and ankle specialty, welcoming lecturers in the field and implementing their own clinics.

The Game Changer Award is an esteemed recognition given by GIII® and GraMedica® to an individual who demonstrates a strong dedication and passion to improve the quality of life for patients suffering from the ill-effects of foot pathologies and who helps elevate the field of foot and ankle surgery.

GIII® and GraMedica® are pleased to recognize Dr. Zhang for his hard work and will continue to support his future endeavors to educate Chinese foot and ankle specialists on the treatment of foot and ankle conditions.
