Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra Will Replace Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra on February 19

(West Palm Beach, FL – October 12, 2012)  The Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts has announced a change in performance ensemble in the 2012/2013 Regional Arts MUSIC “At Eight” Concert Series, sponsored by Leonard and Sophie Davis.

The previously announced Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra has canceled its February 19 concert at 8 p.m. in Dreyfoos Hall, as well as its entire Florida tour. It will be replaced at the Kravis Center by the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra.

February 19 – 8 p.m.    (Tuesday)
Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra
Fabio Mechetti, Music Director & Principal Conductor
Augustin Hadelich, Violin
(Regional Arts Concert Series)
Hailed by one critic as a “musician’s musician,” violinist Augustin Hadelich has a fascinating backstory.  Although he had given his first concert at age 7, Hadelich was badly burned when he was 15. According to The New York Times, “some doctors told him he would never play again, but he surmounted the odds to win the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis in 2006 and has become one of the most distinctive violinists of his generation... (Augustin Hadelich, now age 28) plays with dazzling technique, a gorgeous tone and penetrating, spontaneous musicality.” Hear his subtle and introspective elegance in the Violin Concerto by Beethoven, played on a Stradivarius that’s been around long before even the composer himself. In addition, this performance of an excerpt from Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde will be a Regional Arts Concert Series premiere.
The program:
+ Beethoven: Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 61
+ Wagner: Tristan und Isolde: Prelude and Liebestod
+ Richard Strauss: Don Juan, Op 20
Alexander W. Dreyfoos, Jr. Concert Hall
Tickets start at $25
(Series sponsored by Leonard and Sophie Davis)
Beyond the Stage: At 6:45 p.m. there will be a free pre-performance discussion by Sharon McDaniel, the Kravis Center’s Regional Arts Programming Associate, who will provide background information about the concert and discuss elements of interest to all audience members, from music novices to experts.
