iTAN Sun Spray Spa® First in the United States to Offer Melanin Detecting Tanning Technology

Oct. 17, 2012 - PRLog -- SAN DIEGO – Oct. 17, 2012 – iTAN Sun Spray Spa®, one of the fastest growing, franchised tanning and spa salons in San Diego and Riverside Counties, becomes the first company in the United States to offer a skin sensing tanning bed with melanin detecting technology, virtually eliminating overexposure.

The tanning technology was engineered by KBL AG, a leading tanning equipment manufacturer and supplier, based in Germany. iTAN purchased three Mega 6800 tanning beds with the easyCare skin sensing system from KBL, and licensed the system under the product name iTAN SMART Skin Sensing bed.

The iTAN SMART Skin Sensing bed captures the most accurate reading of skin type available in the tanning industry, by way of the iTAN SMART Reader, which detects melanin, the primary determinant of skin color. The bed adapts to the melanin read by the Reader, and outputs the appropriate amount of UV-A and UV-B rays for the individual skin type. Because the Reader detects only melanin, the main determinant of skin color, the reading is not distorted by cosmetic spray tans, lotions, or cosmetics that may be on the customer’s skin. The accuracy of the Reader in calculating skin type and creating a customized tanning session virtually eliminates the possibility of overexposure. To activate the bed, the customer places the Reader on four spots: the right and left cheek (two areas on the body that are always exposed to sunlight), and the insides of the right and left arm (two areas not often exposed to sunlight). The iTAN SMART system uses an algorithm to accurately determine the appropriate amount of UV-A and UV-B rays for the 10 minutes tanning session.
