OneWorld Communications Helps Create a Big Rumble in San Francisco

To increase preparation for earthquakes, OneWorld Communications helped the California Earthquake Authority and the American Red Cross create a grass roots campaign with a flash dance drill and symbolic promotional platform.

Oct. 18, 2012 - PRLog -- San Francisco - On the anniversary of the Loma Prieta earthquake of 1989, the Earthquake Country Alliance wanted to generate awareness among homeowners, businesses and commuters to be prepared for the next big one. San Francisco advertising agency OneWorld Communications helped the alliance of preparedness partners with a unique way to get the word out.

People in the city’s downtown Union Square area were treated to a sudden “rumble” to remind them that surprises can happen at any time and it’s crucial to have an emergency game plan. A choreographed dance to Carole King’s song,  “I Feel the Earth Move,” provided a positive way to generate awareness for earthquake preparedness.

OneWorld also helped create the idea for a symbolic Traveling Red Table™ to promote participation in The Great California ShakeOut™. The oversize table is designed to teach people to “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” when the ground shakes. The Great California ShakeOut™ earthquake drill has inspired a national and worldwide earthquake preparedness movement with more than 13.6 million participants expected in 2012.

“The American Red Cross is working to help people recognize earthquake preparedness as an important responsibility that comes with daily living in California,” said American Red Cross Bay Area Chapter CEO Harold W. Brooks.  “We’re here to educate the community on how to prepare a simple game plan for their family.”

“Many partners teamed up for this effort, like the California Earthquake Authority, Earthquake Country Alliance, the California Emergency Management Agency, The United States Geological Survey, the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management, and FEMA. All these agencies came together to help increase awareness for public safety and preparedness,” said Jonathan Villet, president of OneWorld Communications.

The event in Union Square was timed to commemorate the Loma Prieta earthquake of 1989 and create awareness for earthquake preparedness.
